"Busking has taught me that you can never guess what is coming your way, you can't try to be ready for it you can only take what comes, smile and continue moving forward. Play as much as you can and with as much passion as you have because that's what interests people; determination guided by passion." - Jordan Bakker

We met Jordan after he contacted us about some advice on a trip he was planning to Busk his way up the East Coast of Aus.

One of us happened to be very hungover that day after though we still managed to get lots of great info and made a new Melbourne Busker Buddy!

What is your name, where are you from and what do you do?

My name is Jordan Bakker i'm 20 years old. I was born in Melbourne and grew up all over the place. first and foremost i am a performer; performing original and cover material. I run a Company in Melbourne called 'Offstage', which serves as a hub for all creative types and includes a Booking Agency, Recording Studio and Music Lessons just to name a few.

How long have you been busking?

I have been busking around melbourne for 3 years now. i started outside the entrance to Altona Square shopping center.

Where are the best places you have busked?

Brunswick St, Fitzroy. Swanston St, CBD. Flinders St Train Station.

Tell us about your best busking and worst experience?

The Best Experience i ever recieved whilst busking would have to have been when i was busking on Swanston St with my friend Zac Rufus. We were outside Brunettis and out of nowhere we were surrounded by strangers all dressed as Fred Flinstone. They were out on a Bucks night.

What gear do you use when busking?

I use a Roland Cube Street for amplification, a Sennheiser e845 Micropohone and a Takamine D series guitar.

An overall explanation of where you have been with Busking, how you travel and where you would normally stay?

I have Busked all around Melbourne and all around Victoria, though for me Busking is less of an occupation more of a Hobbie; I go busking when i want to have some fun.

What do your friends and family think of you Busking?

The first time i went busking i made about $50 in an hour I told my Dad and he was almost mortified. he immediately thought i should make a carreer out of busking. later that afternoon at my cousin's gig that i snuck into underage i told him about my busking escapade and he was also shocked. "that's more than I make in two hours at my job, i'd be Stoked with that".

What have you learnt and adopted into your life musically and on a whole?

Busking has taught me that you can never guess what is coming your way, you can't try to be ready for it you can only take what comes, smile and continue moving forward. I have had some CRAZY experiences from busking and i look forward to my music bringing me many more.

What is your advice for anyone looking to busk?

Get something that makes you loud, REALLY LOUD. don't worry about how good you are as a musician or performer just get out there and start playing. Play as much as you can and with as much passion as you have because that's what interests people; determination guided by passion.

Where can we find you online and what are you up to now?

you can find me everywhere muwahahahahahaha

Thanks Jordan, be sure to give this guy a follow and if you have any crazy experiences, good advice or just want to drop us a line, you can say g’day at [email protected]
