Applicants must have had a General Area Permit without incident for a minimum of six months. Bourke Street Mall Permit approval requires a separate review process. *If you are a visiting professional act from interstate or overseas please contact the Busking and Program Coordinator on 03 9658 9658 to confirm your eligibility before completing an application or booking a review time.

Fines/Restrictions Melbourne has been getting stricter with permits. We recommend not busking without one or you could get a hefty fine. Jerks!
Flinders Street Station Tunnels - MAP - If you don’t have amplification the tunnels are great for sound - Catch the work crowd 8am and 4pm Monday - Friday Southbank - MAP - Heavy tourist traffic on holidays & weekends - Circle Act location corner Southbank Promenade & Southbank Pedestrian Bridge - No Busking Southbank Promenade before 8am and after 10pm (you still can but there is a small risk of being asked to stop, lots of buskers still busk after 10) Swanston Street - MAP - Infront of the State Library - Loud noise from passing trams Federation Square - MAP Prime Spot (apply directly to Federation Square management for busking permit) Apply Here Chapel Street - Weekend Drinks Crowd - Requires Separate Permit Buckley Square, Brunswick - Recommended by Melbourne busker Wally Howlett
